Men's Basketball sweeps weekend with win over Michigan-Dearborn

GARY, Ind. – Trinity Men's Basketball picked up its second victory in the past 24 hours on Saturday, as the Trolls swept their matchups at the Indiana Northwest Redhawk Classic by defeating Michigan-Dearborn, 83-77.

Marcus Green led the way for the Trolls again, scoring 19 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Five Trolls finished in double figures, with Chris Cross posting 18 points, and Mac Parmelee finishing with 16 off the bench.

Danny Staskunas tallied 11 points with three assists. Tylan Harris scored 10 points.

Trinity opened with a 14-6 lead after a pair of buckets from Green and Cross, but Dearborn would respond, taking a 20-19 lead at the 11:27 mark of the first half. A 6-0 run would push the Dearborn lead to 28-21 with under seven minutes left in the first half.

A run of seven straight points from Cross and a Jalen Brown jumper capping a 9-0 run put the Trolls back in front, 32-30, and Trinity would hold onto the lead throughout the rest of the first half. Cross led all scorers with 14 first-half points, including a 7-for-7 performance at the free throw stripe.

Trinity would hold the lead throughout the second half, managing a single-digit advantage throughout most of the period, but eventually going up by as much as 12 after a layup and free throw from Parmelee with 9:34 left to play.

The Trolls will look to make it a 3-0 start for the first time since 2022-23, when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio next week. Trinity will take on the host Mount Vernon Cougars on Friday, Nov. 8, before taking on Aquinas (Mich.) on Saturday, Nov. 9.
