MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Trinity Men's Basketball suffered a pair of tough losses over the weekend while competing at the Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) Homecoming Tournament, falling to the host Cougars on Friday night, 101-80, before coming up short against Aquinas (Mich.) on Saturday, 73-58.
On Friday against Mount Vernon Nazarene, Chris Cross led the Trolls with 18 points, as four players finished in double figures. Both sides would trade lead throughout the middle portion of the first half, but a 7-0 run for the home team near the four-minute mark would help to put the Trolls behind, 52-42 at the half.
Trinity would open the second half on a 5-0 run, but were unable to pull even with the Cougars the rest of the way.
Marcus Green would lead the charge on Saturday, scoring 30 points for the second time this season along with a team-high nine rebounds. Cross tallied 23 points with six boards and three steals, while going 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
The Saints would open up an early lead to start the game, and maintain a double-digit advantage throughout much of the day.
The Trolls will look to bounce back next week, when their season-opening six-game road trip continues with a visit to Indiana Wesleyan. Tipoff from Marion, Ind. on Thursday, Nov. 14 is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
