Trolls hold off Viterbo in closing minutes for third straight win

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – A 16-point first-half lead vanished, and the Trolls needed a late rally down the stretch, but Trinity picked up their third win in a row on Wednesday night, defeating Viterbo 74-69 inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Marcus Green led the Trolls with his third straight 30-point game, going 12-for-17 from the floor with ten rebounds to record his first career double-double. After the win, Green moved to the top of the NAIA scoring race, with a season average of 26.0 points per game.

Tylan Harris finished with 14 points, with five boards and five assists, and Ognjen Petkovic tallied ten points on 5-of-6 shooting.

The Trolls quickly built a ten-point advantage after six unanswered buckets capped by a three from Chris Cross gave Trinity a 15-5 lead by the 15:11 mark. With seven minutes left in the first half, Petkovic's layup gave the Trolls their largest lead of the night, 33-17.

Viterbo would rally before the end of the half, closing on a 13-3 run and cutting the Trinity lead to four, 40-36 at the break.

The lead would change six times in the second half, with a pair of Viterbo free throws with 1:51 remaining putting the visitors back in front, 69-67. Buckets from Green and Harris on the Trolls' next two possessions, along with some key defensive stops would put Trinity back in front, and a pair of Danny Staskunas free throws put the game away for the Trolls.

The Trolls now break for the Christmas season, and will return to the court on Monday, December 30, when they head to Rochester (Mich.). Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
