ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Chris Cross led the Trolls with 23 points, as four players finished in double figures during Trinity's return to the court after the Christmas holiday, but the hosts Rochester Christian (Mich.) would hold off the visitors down the stretch as the Trolls fell 80-70 on Monday afternoon.
Cross recorded his seventh 20-point game of the season, along with eight rebounds and four assists on the day. Garrett Greene tallied 17 points in his season debut for the Trolls, going 6-for-11 from the floor in his return.
Trinity would overcome a small deficit in the early minutes, when Tylan Harris evened the score with a jumper at the 13:50 mark of the first half. A three-point play from Cross with 11 minutes left in the opening period would give the Trolls their largest lead of the day, 18-14.
A scoring drought over four minutes would allow the Warriors to go on a 10-0 run, reclaiming a 26-20 lead with seven minutes until the end of the first half. The home team would go into the break with a 32-27 advantage, with Cross's nine first-half points leading the Trolls at the half.
A quick four points from Ognjen Petkovic closed the gap to 35-31 in the early moments of the second half, and minutes later a five-point run from Greene made it a two-point game, 38-36 with 15:50 remaining. Rochester Christian would hold off the comeback, maintaining a single-digit advantage throughout the rest of the game, until a late pair of free throws would push the Warriors' lead to 76-65 in the closing seconds.
Danny Staskunas would finish the day with 14 points, hitting four three-pointers throughout the game. Petkovic posted ten points with seven boards, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor.
The Trolls will look to bounce back on New Years Eve, when they close out the road trip with a matchup against Lawrence Tech (Mich.). Tipoff with the Blue Devils is set for 12:30 p.m.
