ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Despite rallying back in the second half after falling behind by double-digits, Trinity came up just short on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Lawrence Tech (Mich.), 74-72.
Taking a four-point lead into the halftime break, the Blue Devils would open the second half on a 12-4 run for the largest lead of the game, 49-37 with 16:30 to play. The Trolls would immediately respond with a scoring run of their own, as two layups and a three-pointer from Garrett Greene would fuel an 11-0 rally, pulling Trinity to within a point, 49-48 with 13:17 remaining.
In the closing minutes Trinity would pull in front, first on a Tylan Harris free throw at the 4:14 mark; Harris would hit a three moments later to give the Trolls a 67-63 edge with 3:27 left on the clock.
With the Trolls still in front, 72-69 with 1:08 left, Lawrence Tech would tie the game with a three-pointer, then take the lead with a pair of free throws. On the game's final possession, Trinity would see four attempts at the game-tying or go-ahead bucket, but all would miss the mark before time expired.
Donavyn Sayles led the Trolls in scoring for the first time this season, posting 19 points and five rebounds. Harris collected 18 points with seven rebounds and eight assists, knocking down five threes on the day.
Chris Cross posted 15 points, while Greene came off the bench for 12 points and six boards.
Trinity will look to bounce back when they resume CCAC play on Saturday, with a visit to Judson. Tipoff with the Eagles is set for 5:00 p.m.
