Trolls falter down stretch at Judson

ELGIN, Ill. – Chris Cross led the Trolls with 34 points to set a new career-high, but an ill-timed scoring drought late in the second half would result in an 89-84 loss to Judson on the road Saturday afternoon.

With eight lead changes in a back-and-forth first half, the Trolls would take their largest lead of the game on Cross' back-to-back three-pointers, giving Trinity a 16-9 lead at the 14:39 mark. Judson would rally before the break, tying the game 38-38 at the half. Cross would lead all scorers with 23 first-half points.

The Eagles would maintain a small lead throughout most of the second half, before a three from Silas Spaulding put the Trolls back on top, 55-54 with 12:49 left to play. A three-point play from Cross, and a pair of Jacob Spaulding free throws put Trinity ahead 63-56 just two minutes later.

After Tylan Harris connected on a three-pointer with just under ten minutes remaining, the Trinity offense would go cold, with just one field goal over the next eight minutes. Garrett Greene would end the drought with a three, cutting the Judson lead down to one, 79-78.

Greene would convert a pair of free throws on the next trip down the floor to put the Trolls in front, 80-79, but a three-point play by the home team would give the Eagles the lead again. Judson would go 7-for-8 from the free throw line over the final 30 seconds to hold on for the win.

Cross would finish 11-for-19 from the floor, plus a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Greene tallied 19 points, his highest point total of the season, along with a team-high seven rebounds. Harris collected 15 points with a 4-for-9 performance from beyond the arc, along with a team-high seven assists.

The Trolls will look to bounce back on Wednesday night, when they conclude the current four-game road swing with a trip to Calumet. Tipoff with the Crimson Wave is set for 7:00 p.m.
