Trolls take straight-set home win over Concordia

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Looking in control throughout the night, Trinity Men's Volleyball secured their fourth straight victory on Tuesday night, as the Trolls took a straight-set victory over Concordia (Ill.) 25-19, 25-12, 25-19 inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Team Leaders

Alex Costa led the Trinity attack with 17 kills and a .444 attack percentage. The Senior also contributed three of the team's seven service aces and pulled out eight digs.

Ryan Schmidt tallied 22 assists with three digs, while splitting time with freshman Tim Slattery, who finished with 15 assists.

• Libero Maycor Carrion tallied a match-high 12 digs to go with three aces in the win.

How it Happened

• The opening set was the most competitive of the night, with five lead changes, but after the Cougars tie the score at 12-12, Trinity would go on a 6-1 run highlighted by three kills from Chris Dargan to take an 18-13 lead. The Trolls would stay in front the rest of the way, closing out the game with five of the last six points to take a 25-19 win.

• After Trinity scored three straight, with Bart Maciczak's kill putting the Trolls ahead 8-5 in the second game, the home team would lead the rest of the way to take a two-set lead in the match. Twice during the second game the Trolls would go on a six-point run to pull away and secure the win, 25-12.

• Concordia took an early 4-1 lead in game three, before two kills and two aces from Costa fueled a seven-point run for Trinity and put the Trolls in front 8-4. The visitors would rally to even the set at 14-14, but the Trolls would put the match away with five of the next six points, including four kills from Dargan during the rally.

Next Up

• Trinity will open conference play next week, when they travel to Roosevelt for a Monday night matchup with the Lakers on February 26. First serve from the Goodman Center in Chicago is set for 7:00 p.m.
