Busker qualifies for NAIA Championships as Trolls compete at Redhawk Invite

RIPON, Wisc. – Two more Trolls punched their tickets to the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships over the weekend, while another became the first this season to hit an NAIA qualifying mark, as Trinity Track & Field competed at the Ripon (Wisc.) Red Hawk Invite.

National Qualifiers

Alyssa Busker secured an NAIA national qualifier spot, in the 200 meters, as the senior won both sprint events on the day. Busker ran a 25.64 in the 200m Dash, good for an NAIA "B" standard. Busker also won the 60 meters, with a time of 7.74 seconds in the 60m final.

• Sophomore thrower Alexa Velazquez secured a personal record and an NCCAA qualifying mark in the women's shot put, with a toss of 35' 10.5" (10.93m).

• On the men's side, senior distance runner Zac Maher posted a time of 4:26.90 in the Mile to set a new personal best and an NCCAA qualifying time, placing 6th in the field of 34 runners.

Personal Records

• Over 20 individual P.R.s were set throughout the meet, including seven Trolls in the men's 800 meters alone. Andrew Ardon (2:06.00), Trenton Brown (2:07.41), Aitor Mateo (2:08.97), Mateo Arredondo (2:14.34), Jesus Portilla (2:14.66), Nathaniel Macias (2:21.07), and Jeremiah Klompien (2:44.41) all posted personal bests in the indoor event.

• Zachary Scott earned a pair of personal bests, in the 60 meters (8.10) and in the 200 meters (27.11). Robert Turner earned a P.R. in the 400 meters, posting a time of 55.02.

• In the women's events, Ashley Lopez set a new personal best in the 60 meters (9.20), while Ella Johnson did the same in the 400 meters (1:05.74).

• Four mid-distance records were set, with Leah Lisowski (2:32.43) and Angelina Calvillo (2:47.47) setting new standards in the 800m Run, and Jordyn Fleener (5:23.05) and Catrina Farris (5:39.32) recording new lows in the Mile.

• In the field events, both Trolls in the women's high jump set new personal bests, with Abigail Hoekzema clearing 4' 11.5" (1.51m), and Aalyssa Gunn jumping 4' 9.5" (1.46m).

• A field of 18 qualifiers will compete in the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, held in Cedarville, Ohio and starting on Friday, February 9.
