Trolls fall in doubleheader to Calumet

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity baseball opened the conference slate on Tuesday afternoon, but struggled in a rematch with Calumet, falling in both games of a doubleheader to the Crimson Wave.

Game 1
Calumet 9, Trinity 1 (7 inn.)
WP: Davenport (1-2) • LP: Stutz (0-2)

• The visitors would get on the board early, scoring two runs on four hits in the top of the 2nd inning, then adding three more runs in the 3rd for a 5-0 advantage.

• The Trolls wouldn't see their first base runner until Tommy Schaaf's base hit with two outs in the 3rd, but would respond with a run in the bottom of the 4th with Connor Janik's base hit and an RBI single from Anthony Cappelletti.

• Calumet would hit a two-run home run in both the 5th and 7th innings to pull away and take the opener, 9-1.

Game 2
Calumet 12, Trinity 6
WP: Baughman (2-1) • LP: Noe (0-3)

• The Crimson Wave again struck early, with three runs in the first two innings. After back to back singles from Benson Holleman and Preston Moore, the Trolls would get a run back in the bottom of the 2nd after a Calumet fielding error to make it a 3-1 score.

• Leading 5-1 going into the 8th, Calumet would post four runs on five hits to extend their lead. Trinity rallied in the bottom half of the inning, with an RBI double from Holleman, then bases-loaded walks drawn by Omar Wright and Carter Chaney.

Darreon Mickell's RBI single and another run-scoring walk from Oliver Camody closed the deficit to 9-6 before the 8th inning rally ended.

Calumet would close out the day by adding three more runs in the 9th, then holding the Trolls without a hit in their final at-bat.
