Trolls take straight-set win over Viterbo

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Alex Costa led the way with 15 kills on Friday night, as Trinity Men's Volleyball took a straight-set victory over Viterbo inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Team Leaders

• Costa tallied 15 kills over three sets, along with six digs and one ace in the win.

Mike Hay collected 11 kills with a .471 attack percentage, while dealing out four aces.

Ryan Schmidt scored 25 assists with four digs.

How it Happened

Game 1
Trinity 25, Viterbo 19

Nick Mioni would give the Trolls their first lead of the night with a kill at 7-6, before a quick three-point rally put the home team ahead 12-9 after kills from Costa and Chris Dargan.

• An ace from Maycor Carrion and back-to-back kills from Hay highlighted a 5-1 run for the Trolls later in the set, pushing the advantage to 18-13.

• After Schmidt's ace at 23-16, Viterbo would score three of the next four but an attacking error would end the game at 25-19.

Game 2
Trinity 25, Viterbo 20

• Two aces from Hay in the first five points gave Trinity an early 4-1 lead, but the V-Hawks would rally to even the score at 5-5.

• Three straight points put Trinity back in front 8-5, before a six-point run pushed the lead further to 17-10, behind a kill and ace from Hay, as well as kills from Costa, Conner Dargan, and Diego Quiroz.

• Trailing 23-15, Viterbo rallied to take five in a row and close the gap, but Hay would end the set with back-to-back kills for the 25-20 win.

Game 3
Trinity 25, Viterbo 15

• Viterbo would hold an early lead, staying in front as late as 8-6, before Trinity came back with nine straight points highlighted by three aces and a kill from Quiroz for a 15-8 lead.

• A 6-1 run for the Trolls increased the lead further as Trinity closed out the match with a dominant 25-15 win.

Next Up

• The Trolls hit the road next Tuesday night, when they travel to take on Judson for a CCAC match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
