PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Alex Costa tallied 15 kills over three sets on Tuesday night, as Trinity Volleyball picked up a key CCAC victory over Roosevelt inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Team Leaders
• Costa led the attack with 15 kills and a .480 attack percentage, while serving up three aces and a pair of blocks.
• Ryan Schmidt and Tim Slattery combined for 20 and 13 assists, respectively.
• Diego Quiroz finished with a game-high nine digs, to go along with four kills, two aces, and two blocks.
Game 1
Trinity 25, Roosevelt 15
• The Trolls took control early, jumping out to an 8-3 lead after a block from Quiroz and Mike Hay. Another three-point run off kills from Cody Figus and Costa pushed the Trinity advantage to 13-5.
• Leading 21-14, the Trolls would put the match away by scoring four of the last five points, coming off of two kills and an ace by Costa, and another kill from Quiroz.
Game 2
Trinity 25, Roosevelt 20
• Roosevelt would lead early, scoring two of the first three points and remaining in front at 10-7.
• The Trolls would score the next five points, with two kills from Costa and another one apiece from Hay and Figus, to take a 12-10 lead.
• The Lakers responded with four of the next five to take the lead, but a Quiroz kill followed by three straight attacking errors gave Trinity the 19-16 edge.
• After the visitors would work to tie the game again at 20-20, the Trolls reeled off five in a row to put the game away. Hay would score a kill to put Trinity ahead 21-20, then finish off the set with a service ace at 25-20.
Game 3
Trinity 25, Roosevelt 18
• The Trolls took an other big lead at the start of the set, going up 7-2 on Costa's service ace as Trinity would eventually go wire-to-wire in the win.
• Trailing 18-12, Roosevelt would make a late rally, scoring four of five to close the gap at 19-16. Kills from Hay and Costa, followed by a Quiroz ace would make it three a row for the Trolls, who would finish the night on a 6-2 run to secure the win.
