Trolls drop twinbill at Calumet

WHITING, Ind. – Trinity Baseball battled through colder temperatures and strong winds on Tuesday afternoon, falling in a doubleheader on the road to Calumet.

Game 1
Calumet 11, Trinity 4
WP: Nowak (3-2) • LP: Nielsen (3-1)

• After Omar Wright's single to lead off the game, the junior reached third with a sac bunt and wild pitch, then scored on Connor Janik's RBI groundout to give the Trolls an early 1-0 lead.

• A two-run home run for Calumet in the bottom of the 2nd would put the home team in front for the first time, then an RBI single in the 3rd inning pushed the advantage to 3-1.

• A leadoff walk for Anthony Cappelletti in the 4th inning would later result in a run for the Trolls, as the senior advanced on a wild pitch then later scored on a passed ball.

• Calumet took control of the game with a seven-run rally in the bottom of the 4th, to take a 10-2 lead.

• Cappelletti and Oliver Carmody each drove in a run in the top of the 5th for the third and fourth runs of the game for the Trolls.

• Wright finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Trinity offense.

• The Trolls again took a 1st inning lead as Darreon Mickell reached on a fielding error and later scored on another Calumet error.

• Calumet posted nine runs in the bottom half of the inning, on three hits, two errors and four walks.

Preston Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate, with three RBI.

• The Trolls will step outside of conference play this weekend, as they face Asbury (Ky.) and Wright State – Lake (Ohio) for three games in Wilmore, Ky. beginning on Friday, March 29.
