PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Softball pushed their win streak to six straight games after a pair of doubleheader sweeps on Wednesday and Thursday, finishing the four-game set in style behind a no-hitter from Katie Lorscheider. The Trolls opened CCAC play on Wednesday with two wins over Indiana South Bend, before sweeping the twinbill over Siena Heights (Mich.) on Thursday.
Trinity 9, Indiana South Bend 1 (5 innings)
WP: Halmon (4-6) • LP: Yarnell (2-9)
• The Trolls jumped out to a big early lead, scoring three runs on three hits in the 1st inning highlighted by a two-run single from Maddy McIntyre.
• RBI singles from Myleigh Halmon and Erianna Claudio pushed the lead to 7-0 in the 2nd inning.
• After Indiana South Bend scored a run in the top of the 3rd, the Trolls would end the game early on run rule with Aubrey O'Neal's RBI single in the bottom of the 5th.
• Halmon picked up the win, throwing all five innings and striking out four. At the plate, the first seven Trolls in the lineup collected one hit apiece, while Alex Hofman and O'Neil in the bottom of the order each finished 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
Trinity 3, Indiana South Bend 0
WP: Lorscheider (5-4) • LP: Patton (1-3)
• Trinity pushed the first run of the game across in the bottom of the 1st, after Charlie Sartoris led off with a single and later scored on a base hit from Guilia Cianfriglia.
• Lorscheider would work a perfect game into the 4th before the Titans collected a pair of hits, but stranded both runners on two straight pop-ups.
• Kamryn Koontz and Hofman each had RBI singles in the 6th inning to increase the Trolls' lead to 3-0.
• Lorscheider struck out five in the complete-game shutout, working around three hits and a pair of walks.
• Cianfriglia and Hofman each finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Trinity 5, Siena Heights 4
WP: Fleischauer (2-0) • LP: Hoover (1-1)
HR: Halmon (1)
• Both sides would trade runs in the first two innings, before Halmon's first home run of the season in the top of the 5th gave the Trolls a 3-1 lead.
• Jolie Robertson led off the 6th inning with a double, later allowing pinch-runner Faith Bruinius to score on a wild pitch for a 4-1 score.
• Siena Heights would put together a late-game rally, scoring three runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game, but the Saints would strand the go-ahead run at third.
• Cianfriglia would be hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the 7th, then got into scoring position on a wild pitch and move to third on McIntyre's sac bunt.
• The Trolls would earn the walk-of win on Claudio's sac bunt attempt, with Cianfriglia beating the play at the plate to score the winning run.
• Halmon pitched six innings with just one run allowed, while also going 1-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a home run.
• Sartoris finished 3-for-4 at the plate and was a home run away from the cycle, scoring a pair of runs in the win.
Trinity 8, Siena Heights 0 (5 innings)
WP: Lorscheider (6-4) • LP: Green (3-4)
• The Trolls built an early lead with three runs in the 1st inning, then two more in both the 2nd and 3rd for a 7-0 advantage.
• Lorscheider would work a perfect game into the 5th inning, before surrendering a leadoff walk. The senior drew three ground balls to get out of the inning, including one to Sartoris who quickly got the ball home to throw out the potential scoring baserunner at the plate.
• Trinity ended the game early with their second walk-off of the day, as Robertson led off the bottom of the 5th with a double, then later scored on a sac bunt attempt from Bruinius.
• The no-hitter goes down as the 9th in program history, and the second in the last ten days, following the combined attempt against Maranatha Baptist (Wisc.) last week.
