PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – As Trinity Men's Volleyball celebrated the career of seven senior athletes before their final CCAC match inside DeVos Gymnasium on Tuesday night, the Trolls started strong but ultimately faded, falling in four sets to Olivet Nazarene.
Team Leaders
• Chris Dargan led the attack with 12 kills, along with a pair of block assists. Two other Trolls finished the night in double figures, as Alex Costa collected 11, and Mike Hay scored 10.
• Ryan Schmidt tallied 19 assists with a pair of digs. Tim Slattery finished with 14 assists and three digs.
• Samuel Kwan led the defense, picking up a match-high nine digs.
Game 1
Trinity 25, Olivet Nazarene 21
• The Trolls came out to a 10-4 lead, highlighted by kills from Dargan, Costa, Bart Maciczak, and Cody Figus.
• Another 4-1 run for the home team pushed the lead further, with a pair of kills from Dargan giving Trinity a 14-7 edge.
• Olivet Nazarene would work their way back into the game, going on an 8-1 run to even the score at 15-15. A pair of kills from Costa would keep things close at 17-17, before a four-point rally for the Trolls, capped by back-to-back aces from the senior gave Trinity a 21-17 lead.
• Trinity would finish off the set with three of the last four points, all on kills from Hay, Costa and Dargan.
Game 2
Olivet Nazarene 25, Trinity 20
• After a kill from Hay gave the Trolls a narrow 4-3 advantage, the Tigers would respond with four of the next five points to take the lead.
• Costa and Dargan tied the game at 7-7 with a pair of kills, then a solo block from Hay would put the Trolls back in front again at 10-9.
• A three-point rally for the visitors would make it a 12-10 Tiger lead, and after kills from Hay and Dargan tied the game again, Olivet would go on a 5-2 run to remain in front, 17-14.
• Costa's kill at 21-18 would be the last of the set for Trinity, as Olivet Nazarene closed out the set on a 7-3 run to take the win.
Game 3
Olivet Nazarene 25, Trinity 20
• Both sides would take narrow leads in the early portions of the game, before Olivet Nazarene used another 7-3 run to claim a 14-10 lead.
• The Tigers would remain in front the rest of the way, with Trinity unable to get more than three points within their opponents, at 21-18.
Game 4
Olivet Nazarene 25, Trinity 15
• The Tigers took control early, going up 8-3 to start and later using a five-point rally to lead 14-5.
• Kills from Dargan and Maciczak started a 6-2 run to close the gap, 16-11.
• Trailing 20-12, the Trolls would score three of the next four, capped with a kill from Nick Mioni, but Olivet Nazarene would close out the match with four straight to secure the win.
Next Up
• The Trolls are now locked into either the No. 5 or 6 seed for the upcoming CCAC Tournament, and will close out conference play on Thursday night, when they travel to Judson. First serve with the Eagles is set for 7:00 p.m.
