PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Getting off to a slow start on Saturday afternoon, the Trolls recovered to split a CCAC doubleheader at the Schaaf Athletic Complex, falling 6-2 to Olivet Nazarene in the opener before taking game two, 8-1.
Game 1
Olivet Nazarene 6, Trinity 2
WP: Timm (4-10) • LP: Halmon (5-7)
HR: Cianfriglia (2)
• The Tigers would score two runs on just one hit in the top of the first, as a dropped third strike and fielding error allowed Olivet to take advantage of a sac fly, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
• Trinity would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, on Giulia Cianfriglia's second home run of the year, a solo shot that cut the deficit to 2-1.
• A two-run error in the 4th inning allowed the Tigers to retake control, 4-1.
• Trailing 6-1 in their last at-bat, the Trolls would load the bases in the 7th inning, and bring home a run on a walk but were unable to come all the way back.
• Cianfriglia, Myleigh Halmon, and Peyton Lowden all recorded two hits in the game. Halmon also struck out six batters in six innings of work, while Abbey Kuehner came in to pitch a scoreless 7th inning.
Game 2
Trinity 8, Olivet Nazarene 1
WP: Lorscheider (8-6) • LP: Flinn (3-9)
• Olivet Nazarene would score first again, plating a run on a double steal in the first inning.
• RBI singles from Maddy McIntyre and Cianfriglia in the bottom of the 2nd would put the Trolls in front, 2-1.
• In the 5th inning the Trolls would start to pull away, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors. Jolie Robertson highlighted the rally with an RBI double.
• The Trolls would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the 6th, as Hailey LaGrange stole home for a run, and Halmon came home on a throwing error.
• Katie Lorscheider picked up the win, throwing seven innings with just one run allowed.
• Cianfriglia would reach base all four times, going 1-for-1 with three walks, and RBI and run scored. McIntyre and Anna Lisa Fluder both had a pair of singles in the win.
