PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Softball celebrated the careers of nine senior athletes on Saturday, but the Trolls would struggle on the field, falling to Saint Xavier in a doubleheader at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
Game 1
Saint Xavier 9, Trinity 0 (6 innings)
WP: Summers (13-6) • LP: Halmon (6-9)
HR: Wright (SXU), 2 (4) • Becker (SXU) (1)
• After a scoreless two innings to start the day, Saint Xavier would break through in the top of the 3rd as the first three batters would reach base and the Cougars would finish with four runs on four hits.
• The visitors added to their lead in the 6th inning, using a five-run rally on five hits and an error to end the game early on run rule.
• Charlie Sartoris and Kamryn Koontz would record the lone base hits of the game for the Trolls, as Sartoris led off the 1st inning with a single, and Koontz doubled to left center in the bottom of the 5th.
Game 2
Saint Xavier 7, Trinity 6
WP: Summers (14-6) • LP: Lorscheider (8-7)
HR: Carr (SXU) (3) • Morgan (SXU) (1) • Bruinius (TCC) (2)
• The Cougars would again strike first, pushing a run across in the top of the 1st. Trinity would even the score with their first run of the day in the bottom of the 4th, with a pair of two-out singles from Peyton Lowden and Faith Bruinius and a Saint Xavier fielding error.
• Saint Xavier would reclaim the lead in the 5th inning, breaking out for another five-run rally before the Trolls responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. After a two-base fielding error allowed Sartoris to get into scoring position, Maddy McIntyre drove in a run, then pinch-runner Isabella Hull would score on Myleigh Halmon's groundout.
• Faith Bruinius closed the gap further with a solo shot in the bottom of the 6th, making it a 6-4 score.
• A solo home run for the Cougars in the 7th inning made it a three-run game again, but Bruinius would rally the Trolls in the bottom of the 7th, driving in two runs with a two-out double to left-center. The Trolls would come up just short however, as the comeback ended with the tying run at second base.
• Bruinius would lead the Trolls at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Sartoris finished 2-for-4 with a run.

The Trolls will hit the road later this week, as they close out the regular season with matchups at Calumet on Wednesday, and Judson on Saturday.
