Hutcherson's complete game advances Trolls in CCAC Tournament

JOLIET, Ill. – Behind a complete game on the mound from senior Jacob Hutcherson, Trinity Baseball advanced to see another day at the CCAC Tournament, as the Trolls eliminated Roosevelt from the lower bracket with an 12-1 victory on Friday afternoon at Duly Health & Care Field.

Trinity 12, Roosevelt 1
WP: Hutcherson (8-0) • LP: Glickman (4-5)
HR: Delgado (RU), 6

• The Trolls would put the first runs of the day on the board during the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Connor Janik led off the frame with a single to center. Three batters later, Carter Chaney's two-out double would score the freshman, then Chaney crossed the plate after Brian Huttner's base hit to put Trinity ahead, 2-0.

• Roosevelt would strand two runners on base in the top of the 3rd, but otherwise the both pitchers worked effectively throughout he early and middle innings. The Trolls would break through again in the 5th, as singles from Brodie Mayberry and Oliver Carmody along with an intentional walk to Janik loaded the bases. Benson Holleman then doubled Trinity's lead with a two-run single.

• Roosevelt would get on the board in the top of the 6th with a solo home run, as the Lakers' only offense of the day. Trinity bounced back in the bottom half of the frame, as Omar Wright and Carmody combined for back-to-back run-scoring singles to make it a 6-1 score.

• After adding another run in the 7th, the Trolls put the game out of reach in the 8th inning, scoring five runs on three hits, highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run triple from Zach Hesse.

• Hutcherson went the distance, working around six hits and three walks to surrender just one run in the win.

• Carmody finished 3-for-4 at the plate, with two runs, and RBI and stolen base. Chaney went 2-for-4 on the day, with two runs, an RBI, and a double.

Next Up

• The Trolls will face the loser of Friday night's matchup between St. Ambrose and Olivet Nazarene, in an elimination game scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. With a win, the Trolls would play another elimination game immediately following Saturday's matchup.
