Trolls rally in second half, defeat Jaguars on Greene's game-winner

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Down 17 at the half, Trinity rallied in the second half and junior Garrett Greene would hit the last-second fadeaway to give the Trolls a 65-64 win over Governors State, inside DeVos Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

A slow start for Trinity would see the Jaguars take an early 7-0 lead, and a three-pointer at the 14:53 mark would give the visitors a double-digit advantage, 15-5. Governors State would stretch their lead to 23-9 before a pair of buckets from Tylan Harris brought the Trolls back to within single digits.

The Jaguars would use a 9-0 run late in the first half to take their largest lead of the day, 40-21, before Chris Cross's layup at the buzzer made it a 17-point halftime score.

Greene would start the Trolls' rally with the first shot of the second half, followed by two quick scores from Ognjen Petkovic to trim the Jaguars' lead down to 42-29 with 17:55 to play. Trinity continued to pull closer, eventually cutting the visitors edge to single digits on a Harris three with 11:16 to play, 49-41.

With under seven minutes left, an 8-0 run would give the Trolls their first lead of the game, with a layup from Cross putting Trinity in front, 58-57 with 3:50 remaining. The Jaguars would hit a three in response to reclaim the lead, before Greene's jumper with 13 seconds left gave the Trolls the 63-62 edge.

Governors State would respond again, hitting a shot with under six seconds left to go back up again, but Greene's second shot in the closing seconds would fall, giving the Trolls the victory.

Harris would lead all scorers with 24 points, going 7-for-14 from the floor and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Greene tallied 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go with a game-high seven rebounds. Cross finished in double figures, collecting 11 points with five board and four assists.

The Trolls look to keep the momentum rolling next week, when they kick off a two-game road swing at St. Francis on Wednesday night. Tipoff with the Saints is set for 7:00 p.m.
