CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Trinity Men's Volleyball kicked off the 2025 season on Friday night, but a tough offensive performance would result in a straight-set loss for the Trolls, 25-14, 25-11, 25-11 at Mount Mercy (Iowa).

Sophomore hitter Austin Risser scored a match-high nine kills, hitting for a .200 percentage on the night. As a team, the Trolls stumbled on the attack to the tune of 26 errors and a -.114 hitting percentage.

The host Mustangs would take an early lead in the first set, opening on a 12-1 run and controlling the first set the rest of the way. Mount Mercy would continue the trend, taking early leads to start games two and three, and leading wire-to-wire to take the sweep.

Caden Figus led the Trolls with 11 assists, while Samuel Kwan registered 12 digs to lead the Trinity defense.

The Trolls will take on the College of DuPage for an exhibition match next Tuesday, before returning to DeVos Gymnasium for a rematch with the Mustangs in the home opener on Saturday, February 1. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
