Trolls pick up road win at Judson

ELGIN, Ill. – Two Trolls recorded double-doubles, as Trinity picked up the road win to open the New Year by defeating Judson, 73-71 on Saturday afternoon.

Desire Berrien recorded a career-high 15 rebounds along with 13 points in the win, while Destiny Goodwin finished with 10 points and 11 boards against the Eagles. Bibi Mercado posted a career- and game-high 17 points, going 3-for-5 from three-point range. Amena Alexander tallied 12 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Trolls got off to a quick start, with threes from Mercado and Alexander leading to an early 8-0 score. Judson would pull to within three midway through the first quarter, but an 11-2 run in response would allow the Trolls to double up their hosts, 24-12 with 1:50 left in the period.

Trinity would take their largest lead of the game in the middle of the second quarter, on Alexander's layup at the 4:34 mark that put the Trolls ahead 34-20. The visitors would carry their double-digit lead through the end of the first half, 42-31.

The Eagles would rally in the third quarter, reclaiming the lead after holding Trinity to just one field goal through the first seven and a half minutes of the period. Lorena Arnett's three would tie the game again at 51-51, ending the scoring drought, but Judson would take a three-point advantage into the fourth quarter, 58-55.

The lead would change hands three times in the fourth quarter, before a Judson bucket would tie the game at 71-71 with just over 90 seconds to play. In the closing seconds, Alexander would hit the game-winner to give the Trolls their first win of the season.

Trinity will look to make it two in a row when they wrap up the road trip on Wednesday with a visit to Calumet. Tipoff from Whiting, Ind. is set for 5:00 p.m.
