PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Brandon Adorno scored a team-high 17 points in his Trinity debut, but the Trolls were unable to hold on to a late lead on Saturday afternoon, falling at home to Madonna (Mich.) 90-84 inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Adorno was one of three Trolls to finish in double figures, shooting 7-for-14 from the floor. Ryan Gierhahn and Corey George finished with 13 points apiece, each going perfect with a combined 9-for-9 on the day.
Trinity would take an early lead after a pair of buckets from George, going up 13-8 at the 13:13 mark of the first half. A 9-0 run for the visitors would give Madonna a 17-13 edge with 11:03 left in the period.
Later in the first half the Trolls would use a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead, as Wandy Munoz's layup at the 2:52 mark put Trinity ahead 33-29. The Trolls would keep their lead into the halftime break, with a late bucket from Adorno making it a 40-34 Trinity lead at the half.
Madonna would open the second period on a 10-4 run, tying the game at 44-44 with 17:09 remaining. The lead would change hands ten times over the next five minutes, but six straight points from George would put the Trolls in front 71-65 with 6:51 left to play.
Seven unanswered points from the Crusaders would tie the game again with 4:40 remaining, with six more lead changes coming in the following minutes. Down the stretch Madonna would use a 9-0 run to pull away and secure the win, 90-84.
The Trolls will look to bounce back on Tuesday, as they continue the season-opening homestand with a visit from Clarke (Iowa). Tipoff with the Pride is set for 7:00 p.m.
