Trolls come up short against Calumet

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Four Trolls finished in double figures, but Trinity were unable to get past the visiting Crimson Wave in the closing minutes, falling at home to Calumet 79-77 on Thursday night inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Danny Staskunas led the way with 20 points on the night, hitting six three-pointers along the way. Johnny Dieck came off the bench to contribute 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Chris Cross scored 13 points with six boards and four assists, while Kaden Eirhart posted 12 points on the night.

The Trolls would take an early lead, and go up by as much as 11 on Eirhart's three-pointer at the 13:52 mark to lead 18-7. Calumet would respond over the course of the rest of the first half, eventually taking a three-point lead, 39-36 at the half.

After the break, both teams would trade the lead four times over the opening eight minutes of the second half, but Trinity were unable to move back in front down the stretch. A key three-pointer from Tylan Harris tied the game at 73-73 with 2:43 left to play, but Calumet would move back in front with a pair of free throws and hold on the rest of the way for the win.

The Trolls will look to bounce back in the home season finale on Saturday, when they host Olivet Nazarene. Tipoff with the Tigers is set for 3:00 p.m.
