PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Men's Basketball celebrated the careers of Chris Cross, Kaden Eirhart, and Johnny Dieck before tipping off on Saturday afternoon against Olivet Nazarene, where a hot-shooting Tigers squad would walk away as Senior Day spoilers in a 92-78 loss for the Trolls inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Trinity opened the day with a strong start, taking a 9-3 lead two minutes into play with Cross and Garrett Greene supplying all nine points. Olivet Nazarene would answer with three three-pointers in the following 2:15, to take a 13-9 advantage that they would hold the rest of the way.
The Trolls would battle back throughout the game, overcoming a 15-point deficit with a 14-4 run midway through the first half. A pair of late threes at the close of the period would push the Tiger lead back to double digits, 49-37 at the break.
Trinity would pull to within seven in the second half, on Ognjen Petkovic's layup at the 9:15 mark. From that point, another three-point run would see Olivet Nazarene go on a 13-3 run to reclaim a double-digit lead that they would maintain throughout the rest of the night.
Greene would lead the Trolls with 23 points, on 9-of-16 shooting, with three rebounds and three assists. Cross tallied 18 points with eight boards, while Tylan Harris picked up 11 points and a team-high four assists. Danny Staskunas recorded 10 points with three rebounds.
The Trolls will hit the road for the final two games of the regular season, beginning with a Wednesday night trip to Holy Cross. Tipoff with the Saints is set for 6:30 p.m.
