Trolls stumble in road trip to Indiana Northwest

GARY, Ind. – A scoring drought near the end of the first half proved too much to chase down in the second, as Trinity came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 83-74 at Indiana Northwest.

Four Trolls would finish in double figures, led by Chris Cross' game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Garrett Greene collected 21 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Tylan Harris and Danny Staskunas each hit a trio of three-pointers and posted 11 points apiece.

A back-and-forth start that would see nine lead changes in the opening ten minutes, Trinity would use a quick 6-0 run with buckets from Kaden Eirhart, Greene, and Cross to take their largest lead of the day, 19-15 by the 9:16 mark of the first half.  After maintaining that four-point edge on a Staskunas three-pointer with 4:56 on the clock, the host Redhawks would respond with 15 unanswered, including for threes in a nearly four-minute stretch. Greene would end the spell with a three, then hit a buzzer-beater to pull back to within eight, 43-35 at the half.

The Trolls came out strong to start the second, with threes from Staskunas and Harris fueling a 10-5 run over the first two and a half minutes of play, to cut the deficit down to 48-45. Midway through the half, Greene and Cross would lead the Trolls on a 7-0 run to tie the score at 57-57 with 10:02 left to play.

Indiana Northwest came back with six straight points to reclaim the lead, and maintain a single-digit edge throughout the rest of the game. Harris' jumper with 5:37 left made it a one-point game before the Redhawks responded again, and back-to-back threes in the final 90 seconds would start a 10-0 run to put the game away down the stretch.

The Trolls will look to bounce back on Wednesday night, when they return to DeVos Gymnasium for the next-to-last home game of the season. Trinity will host Calumet, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
