Game Recap: Softball |

Trolls take on Elmhurst, North Central in non-conference matchups

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Softball would take on a pair of NCAA Division III opponents over the weekend, hosting Elmhurst (Ill.) and taking a rare tie in game two of the doubleheader, before traveling to North Central (Ill.) on Saturday.

Trinity 4, Elmhurst 1
WP: Halmon (4-5) • LP: Hoyh

The Trolls would strike first in the bottom of the 1st, after a leadoff walk from Erianna Claudio and a base hit from Halie LaGrange would set the table for a run-scoring base hit from Myleigh Halmon. Trinity would add two more in the 3rd inning, on Lauryn Packard's two-run single, scoring Claudio and LaGrange for a 3-0 advantage.

Elmhurst would get on the board in the top of the 4th with a run, but the Trolls got it back in the bottom half of the frame when Alana Harlow drove in Alana Buchanan for Trinity's fourth run of the day.

Claudio and LaGrange each finished with two hits in the game, combining for three runs scored. Halmon picked up the win in the circle, throwing all seven innings and striking out seven without an earned run allowed.

Trinity 3, Elmhurst 3 (6 inn.)

The Blue Jays would break through in the 3rd inning for their first lead of the day, scoring one run on three hits. Trinity tied the game in the bottom of the 4th, on Halmon's two-out RBI double, but the visitors would post a run in the 5th and 6th innings for a 3-1 lead.

The Trolls rallied in the bottom of the 6th, as the first two batters would reach base, setting up an RBI single for Alex Hofman. Emma Luther then singled in the next at-bat, scoring Kamryn Koontz for the game-tying run. The rally would end there, and umpires would call the game due to darkness, resulting in the 3-3 tie.

Claudio finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs, while Hofman and Luther each collected two base hits in the game.

North Central 9, Trinity 1 (5 inn.)
WP: Schilf • LP: Halmon (4-6)

Saturday's doubleheader at North Central would start with the home team breaking out for four runs in the bottom of the 2nd, before the Trolls got on the board in the top of the 3rd. Anna Lisa Fluder would start the rally with a leadoff single, before LaGrange drove in the run on a two-out base hit.

Trinity would be held without another run throughout the rest of the game, as the Cardinals added another five runs in the 5th to end the game early on run rule.

LaGrange would lead the Trolls at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

North Central 2, Trinity 1
WP: Maude • LP: Congoran (1-3)

Trinity came back in game two with a run in the top of the 1st, with a pair of two-out base hits as Halmon would double, then score on Hofman's single. Freshman Emma Congoran would keep the home side off the scoreboard for five innings, before North Central would break through with two runs in the bottom of the 6th.

Halmon and Fluder would each finish with two base hits, with Halmon picking up the team's only extra-base hit along with a run scored.

The Trolls resume conference play next week with a pair of road trips, beginning on Wednesday, March 26 with a visit to Indiana South Bend.
