Trolls split at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa. – The Trolls split their second CCAC doubleheader of the week on Saturday, as Trinity took a 2-1 win in game one at St. Ambrose, before falling in game two, 5-2.

The host Bees would strike first in the bottom of the 2nd, as a pair of doubles pushed across the first run of the day. The Trolls would be held off the scoreboard until the top of the 6th, beginning with a leadoff walk from Halie LaGrange and a sacrifice bunt from Myleigh Halmon. Alex Hofman and Lauryn Packard each hit two-out run-scoring base hits, giving Trinity the 2-1 lead.

Halmon would earn the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings with just six hits allowed and five strikeouts. Hofman and Anna Lisa Fluder each finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Trinity offense.

The Bees would post runs in the 1st and 2nd innings for an early 2-0 lead, as the Trolls struggled at the plate with just three base hits over the first five frames. The Trolls would break through in the top of the 6th, when Fluder drew a bases-loaded walk for the team's first run of the game. Hofman would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.

St. Ambrose would respond in the bottom half of the inning, posting three runs on three hits and an error to retake control.

Packard and Kamryn Koontz would each go 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Trolls in game two.

Trinity returns to the Schaaf Athletic Complex next Tuesday, when they host Viterbo for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
