GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a slow start in the opener, Trinity rallied in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, but would come up short after a late rally from hosts Aquinas (Mich.) in the second game of the day.
Aquinas 9, Trinity 0 (6 inn.)
WP: Pavese • LP: Halmon (6-9)
The host Saints would open with a run in the 1st inning, as the Trolls would struggle at the plate in the opener. Trinity would put a runner on base in each of the next three innings, but were unable to get on the scoreboards as Aquinas posted two runs in the 3rd, four more in the 5th, then ended the game early on run rule in the 6th.
Erianna Claudio and Isabella Hull would each double in the game, while Anna Lisa Fluder was the lone Troll to reach base twice, with a pair of walks.
Aquinas 4, Trinity 3
WP: Drummond • LP: Lorscheider (3-7)
The Trolls would bounce back early in game two, scoring in the top of the 1st on Alex Hofman's two-out double. Trinity would add two more in the 2nd inning, on Hull's bases-loaded double for the 3-0 lead.
After being held to just two hits over the first five innings, the Saints rallied in the 6th, scoring four runs on five hits to take a 4-3 lead. Trinity would see the leadoff batter reach base on error in the 7th, but would be unable to get a run across in their last at-bat.
Claudio would go 3-for-4 to lead the Trolls at the plate, while Hull and Hofman each finished with two base hits, and all three would record a double.
The Trolls resume conference play on Tuesday, when they travel to Saint Xavier for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm
