PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — Trinity Christian netted a pair of first-half goals and pulled away late to earn a 3-1 victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.

Rafael Torres opened the scoring in the 20th minute with his first goal since joining the Trolls, finishing a setup from David Hernandez and Ismael Aguero. Hernandez doubled the lead less than 10 minutes later by converting a penalty kick, giving him two goals this season. With the tally, Hernandez moved into a tie for the national lead among NCCAA players.

After the Pomeroys pulled one back in the 81st minute, Trinity answered just two minutes later when Gabriel Estrella scored his first goal in a Trolls uniform off an assist from Enzo Pimentel to restore the two-goal margin.

Goalkeeper Zach Coppin stopped three shots for Trinity (2-0-1), which outshot SMWC 13-9 and held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The Trolls continue their nonconference schedule Saturday, Aug. 30, when they travel to Grand View (Iowa) for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
