PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — The Trinity Christian men's basketball team returned to the win column Wednesday (Feb. 18) with an 87-73 victory over Holy Cross. All five starters scored in double figures, led by Garrett Greene's 18 points.
Aiden Cilladi flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Brandon Adorno added 17 points, Wandy Ortiz chipped in 15, and Ognjen Petkovic contributed 10 in the balanced effort.
Trinity Christian wasted no time setting the tone, racing out to a 19-5 lead in the opening five minutes. Holy Cross answered by trimming the deficit to single digits at 24-16 with 11:17 left in the first half.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Brandt Martin and Tylan Harris pushed the Trolls' advantage to 30-16. The Saints again responded, cutting it to 34-25 with under eight minutes to play before halftime.
Cilladi knocked down a three to stretch the lead to 38-25, and Greene followed with a triple of his own to make it 41-28 with 4:22 remaining in the half. Holy Cross mounted a quick 9-0 run to pull within 41-37, but Trinity settled in and closed the half on a 7-3 spurt to take a 48-40 lead into the break.
Greene and Munoz opened the second half with consecutive three-pointers to extend the lead to 57-42 with 17 minutes remaining. Moments later, Petkovic finished at the rim to give the Trolls a 20-point cushion with 12:22 to play.
Jaiden Gilzene buried a three-pointer with 9:24 left to give Trinity its largest lead of the night. Although Holy Cross cut the deficit to 10 in the final minute, the Trolls maintained control down the stretch to secure the 87-73 win.
