CHICAGO — The Trinity Christian College men's volleyball team opened Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Monday (Feb. 23) with a 3-0 loss to host Saint Xavier.
SET 1: Saint Xavier 25, Trinity Christian 19
Trinity Christian jumped out to an early 6-5 lead after Juvantae Thompson recorded a kill. Saint Xavier responded and took a 12-10 lead, but that was as close as the Trolls would get.
The Cougars scored three straight points to grab a 17-10 advantage. Thompson looked to spark another rally with a kill that cut the deficit to 22-18.
The Cougars closed out the set by winning three of the final four points to secure the 25-19 victory.
SET 2: Saint Xavier 25, Trinity Christian 20
Both teams traded points to start the set. Daniel Whaley gave Trinity Christian a 14-13 lead after recording a kill.
The Trolls regained the lead at 17-16, but that would be the final advantage of the set. Saint Xavier outscored Trinity Christian 8-3 down the stretch to take the set 25-20.
SET 3: Saint Xavier 25, Trinity Christian 18
Saint Xavier jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the opening moments of the third set. Trinity Christian responded and tied the score at 7-7 after a kill from C.J. Lafin.
The Cougars later extended their lead to 15-10. The Trolls attempted to rally with back-to-back points, including a block from Evan Whaley, but Saint Xavier maintained control to complete the sweep.
