Trinity Christian Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Webber International Tuesday

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- The Trinity Christian College softball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Webber International Tuesday (March 10) with the Trolls winning both contests 2-1 in extra innings.

GAME 1: Trinity Christian 2, Webber International 1 (8 innings)
The game was a pitcher's duel from the start as both starters went all seven innings without allowing a run. Webber loaded the bases in the first inning, but Trinity Christian escaped without allowing a run.

Lauryn Packard started the second inning with a leadoff double, but the Trolls were unable to capitalize. The Warriors loaded the bases again in the third, but Trinity Christian escaped the jam without allowing a run.

Trinity Christian finally broke through in the eighth inning after Caitlin Hernandez drove in Ava Valk with an RBI single to make it 1-0. Jessica Pleckham doubled the lead with an RBI double that scored Peyton Lowden to make it 2-0.

Ashley Plapp surrendered an unearned run in the eighth but escaped further damage as the Trolls held on for the 2-1 victory. Plapp pitched a complete game, allowing six hits while walking six and striking out two.

GAME 2: Trinity Christian 2, Webber International 1 (9 innings)
Trinity Christian broke through early with the first run of the contest after Anna Lisa Fluder hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jessica Pleckham for a 1-0 lead. Trolls starting pitcher Lowden was dealing until Webber broke through with a run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

The game moved into extra innings with the score still tied 1-1. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Trolls broke through in the ninth inning when Hernandez scored after Ariana Ikis reached on a Warriors error. Lowden recorded the win in the circle after pitching all nine innings, allowing four hits and one run while walking three and striking out three.

Trinity Christian will be back in action Thursday, March 12 as the Trolls take on UNOH at 11:15 a.m. then Defiance at 3:45 p.m. CT.
