Trinity Christian Puts Up 30 Runs in First Game; Splits Day 2 of Florida Trip

FLORIDA -- The Trinity Christian College softball team split both games of their second day in Florida (March 9). The Trolls defeated Fisher 30-1 in five innings then fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene 8-0 in five innings.

GAME 1: Trinity Christian 30, Fisher 1 (5 innings)
Trinity Christian jumped out of the gate with eight runs in the first inning. Hallie LaGrange scored after Lauryn Packard reached on a fielding error.

Peyton Lowden ripped a two-run double down the left-field line, scoring Anna Lisa Fluder and Packard for a 3-0 lead. Caitlin Hernandez then singled home Lowden to make it 4-0.

Hernandez later scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 advantage. Jessica Pleckham drove in Alana Buchanan with an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 6-0.

Ariana Ikis scored on a passed ball, and Pleckham later crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 8-0. Fisher got its lone run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Trolls added three more runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 11-1. Hernandez drove in Fluder with an infield single, Buchanan brought home Lowden with a sacrifice fly and Hernandez later scored on a wild pitch.

Nine more runs crossed the plate in the third inning for TCC. Jenna Hughes hit a two-run single to right-center field, scoring Madison Seymour and Alana Harlow for a 13-1 lead.

Analise Francois and Hughes both scored on wild pitches to make it 15-1. Ava Valk drove in Sophia Loza with an RBI single, Madison Kaufman later scored on a wild pitch, Harlow doubled home Valk, Alexa Chapman drove in Kaitlyn Evans with an RBI groundout and Seymour added an RBI double to score Harlow for a 20-1 advantage.

TCC scored three more runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 23-1. Valk recorded a bases-loaded RBI single to left field, scoring Hughes. Evans drew a bases-loaded walk, and Harlow later drove in Hughes with an RBI groundout.

The Trolls added seven more runs in the fifth inning. Kaufman drew a bases-loaded walk to begin the scoring as Francois crossed the plate.

Valk followed with an infield single to shortstop, scoring Hughes, and Evans drove in Loza with a single to right field. Harlow put the finishing touches on the game with a grand slam to center field, scoring Evans, Valk and Kaufman.

Zoey Fleischauer recorded the win in the circle after pitching two innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out two. Oceana Reiser pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out four.

GAME 2: Mount Vernon Nazarene 8, Trinity Christian 0 (5 innings)
Mount Vernon jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, and Trinity Christian was unable to respond. The Cougars added four more runs in the fifth inning to put the contest out of reach.

The Trolls had runners on third and second after hits from Ashley Plapp and Lauryn Packard in the fourth inning but were unable to bring home any runs. Trinity Christian had another scoring chance in the fifth after a leadoff double by Alana Harlow but was unable to break through.

Trinity Christian will continue its Florida Spring Trip Tuesday, March 10 as the Trolls take on Webber International for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. CT.
