Box Score 2 The Trinity baseball team concluded their final day of play at the RussMatt Invitational, splitting with the Cornerstone University Eagles during a double header.
In the first game, the Eagles scored eight runs in the first three innings compared to the Trolls' four. From there, Cornerstone continued to grow their lead, ultimately winning 16-5.
Five different Trolls recorded runs in this game including senior Sam Herzog, senior Alex Gerhardt, senior Frank Romano, who pinch ran for Josh Caceres, senior Liam Blake and junior Matt Burke. Four Trolls also recorded an RBI including freshman Michael Moralez, junior Will Kulcher, freshman Tyler Petersen and senior Brandon Riemersma.
From there, they went back onto the field for the second game of the double header. The Trolls scored the first run of the game in the third inning, and continued to keep the pressure on the Eagles. Cornerstone was unable to grab a lead, resulting in a 4-2 win for Trinity.
Kulcher led the team in runs with two while Riemersma, who pinch ran for Caceres, and redshirt sophomore Brent Norkus scored one each. Caceres, Moralez, Petersen and Herzog all recorded RBI's as well.
Additionally, freshman Nathan Deckinga started the game pitching six innings, only allowing two runs while striking out seven batters. Junior Zach Huisman came in for the final inning, grabbing two strikeouts as he faced four batters.
Today's games end the Trolls' time in Florida. They now have an overall record of 7-9. They will be back in action on Wednesday, March 11 as they begin conference play against Judson University at Schaaf Athletics Complex. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
