Box Score 2 ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Facing a pair of squads listed among the preseason NAIA national rankings, Trinity dropped a pair of matchups over the weekend, falling 82-69 to No. 15 Dordt (Iowa) on Friday, and 83-61 to hosts Northwestern (Iowa) on Saturday, as part of the Northwestern Classic.
Katarina Savic posted 27 points against the Defenders (4-0) on Friday, with Laila McNeal scoring 20 to help lead the Trolls (3-2). After trailing throughout the first quarter, Trinity used a 6-0 run to take the lead, 21-20 on Destiny Goodwin's layup at the 7:48 mark. McNeal's layup with 2:00 minutes left in the first half gave the Trolls their largest lead of the day, 36-31, but Dordt would rally back to tie the game at the break, 36-36.
Dordt would pull away in the second half, maintaining a small single-digit lead throughout the third, and holding the Trolls off down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
Against the Raiders (4-0) on Saturday, Savic led the away again, scoring 15 points while McNeal recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Goodwin came off the bench for 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
The Trolls would briefly lead in the opening moments of the game, but Northwestern closed the first quarter on a 12-2 run to lead 24-15 at the first intermission. The home team would lead the rest of the way, pulling away in the fourth quarter with a 25-15 scoring margin in the final ten minutes.
Trinity returns to DeVos Gymnasium as they resume CCAC play next week, with a mid-week matchup with St. Francis. Tipoff with the Saints is set for Wednesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m.
