Box Score 2 UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – Trinity women's basketball wrapped up 2022 with a pair of games at the Governors State Winter Classic, suffering a pair of single-digit defeats, 65-56 to Goshen (Ind.) on Thursday and 74-69 to Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Friday.
Sofia Radice and Destiny Goodwin led the Trolls (6-8) with 11 points each against the Maple Leafs (6-8) on Thursday, but Trinity struggled from beyond the arc, going 1-for-13 from three-point range in the loss. Trinity opened with a 12-2 run, with five different players scoring to give the Trolls an early lead. Goshen would take the lead by out-scoring Trinity 24-18 in the second quarter, to claim a 34-32 edge at the break.
Goodwin put the Trolls back on top with a bucket at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter, 51-49, and would remain in the lead until about three minutes left in regulation. Goshen would close out the game by scoring 11 straight points to secure the win, as the Trolls finished the final 5:15 without a field goal.
On Friday, Katarina Savic led the Trolls with 15 points as all five starters finished in double figures. Like the day before Trinity would take an early lead, going up 9-5 on a Faith Davis three-pointer at the 6:18 mark of the first quarter. Williams Baptist (6-7) rallied to take a one-point lead at the end of the opening period, and would stay in control throughout the rest of the first half.
Laila Gibson's layup midway through the third quarter put the Trolls back in front, 44-42, but the Eagles would respond with a 9-2 run and hold the lead the rest of the way.
The Trolls will look to bounce back when they resume conference play on Thursday, January 5, with a trip to St. Ambrose. Tipoff with the Bees is set for 5:30 p.m.
