Box Score University Park, Ill. - Trinity Christian College men's basketball (10-16, 6-13 CCAC) had their playoff hopes dashed on wednesday night as they fell 94-75 to Governors State (10-15, 7-11 CCAC). Despite the loss, senior James Pennington scored 31 points to pace the Trolls offense. The guard had another efficient night from the floor. He went 10-for-16 from the field and three-for-seven from the three-point line. Pennington has shot 51% from the field and 57% from the three-point line in his last four games.
At halftime, the Trolls trailed by six points. Governors State extended their lead early in the second half before the Trolls cut into it. The Trolls trailed by seven after a pair of free throws from freshman Brady Loerop with 11 minutes to play. Governors State then went on a 6-0 run and the Trolls could never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Turnovers quickly became a problem for Trinity Christian College. They turned it over 22 times and Governors State scored 22 points off of those turnovers.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Pennington also had nine rebounds and six assists. Wednesday was the fourth game this season that Pennington has scored 30+ points this season. In all four games he shot 50% from the field.
- Sophomore Braxton Barnhizer scored 20 points on three-for-six from the three-point line. He also added eight rebounds.
- Freshman Brady Loerop scored seven points off the Trolls bench.
- Trinity Christian College shot 88% (14-16) from the free throw line.
