Box Score Elgin, Ill. - Clinging to the back end of the CCAC Playoff picture, Trinity Christian College women's basketball (13-14, 8-13 CCAC) fell on Wednesday night to Judson University (7-20, 6-15 CCAC) by a final score of 65-57. The loss puts the Trolls in a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot with Governors State.
Trinity Christian College controls their own destiny into the CCAC Playoffs. A win on Saturday against Lincoln College and Trinity Christian will play top seeded Saint Xavier in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament.
Despite Wednesday's loss, senior Gabby Kreykes put together another great performance. She scored 23 points on 50% from the field while also grabbing six rebounds and three steals.
Trinity Christian College got off to a rapid start. They went on a 9-0 run to open the game and it was Kreykes with six of those points. Judson chipped away at the Trinity lead, and with 4:15 in the second quarter, a three-pointer from Ta'mia Banks gave the Eagles their first lead of the night at 27-25. Going into halftime, Judson led 34-31.
With the Eagles leading 38-31 in the third quarter, the Trolls capped off an 8-0 run thanks to a three-ball from senior Summer Cramer to take back the lead at 39-38. Cramer finished with 11 points. Judson ended the quarter on their own run. Banks scored the next six points for Judson and the Trolls trailed 44-38 going to the fourth quarter. Banks ended the night with 27 points to lead all scorers.
The Trolls played from behind the entire fourth quarter. Senior Jasmine Glover made a layup with 1:31 remaining to cut the Eagles lead at 54-51. Judson scored the next four points and ran away with the 65-57 victory.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Kreykes did most of the heavy lifting for the Trolls again. Wednesday was the 15th time this year she has scored 20+ points.
- While Cramer went just 3-12 from the three-point line, she has now hit two or more three's in her last five games.
- Sophomore Sarah Page had one of her most productive nights of the season. Playing in just her 10th game this year, she scored eight points and hit two, three-pointers.
- The Trolls shot only 32% from the field on Wednesday.
