Bees defense too much to overcome, Trolls fall 74-52

Davenport, Iowa - Playing two of the top teams in the conference, over the course of three days, is never easy. For Trinity Christian College women's basketball (12-12, 7-11 CCAC), after falling to University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday, the Trolls couldn't get past the stingy defense of St. Ambrose (24-2, 17-2 CCAC) on Monday night. They lost by a final score of 74-52. 

Trailing by just three points entering the fourth quarter, the Bees outscored the Trolls, 32-13, and saw nine different players score in the period. The Trolls had five of their 11 turnovers come in the fourth quarter.

Trinity Christian College was led by senior Gabby KreykesShe scored 19 points and hauled in 12 rebounds. St. Ambrose limited the Trolls to just 29.8% from the field and only 25% from the three-point line. 

As Trinity Christian ended the third quarter on a Kreykes jump shot at the buzzer, the momentum was on their side trailing 42-39.

Freshman Faith Davis drilled a three-pointer with 7:26 to go in the fourth quarter and the Trolls were hanging around, down only six points. But after the Davis make, it was the start of a monster St. Ambrose rally and the Bees ended the game with a 23-7 scoring advantage. 

NOTES & NUMBERS: 

  • Kreykes collected her ninth double-double of the season. She's scored in double-figures in 21 of the 22 games she's played this year.
  • Senior Summer Cramer scored 11 points. She hit two three-pointers. It's the 14th time this year she's hit multiple three-pointers in a game.
  • Davis has been a three-point machine this season. She made three more three-pointers on Monday. Davis now has 54 made three-pointers this season. She's averaging 2.6 made three's per game. 
  • The 11 turnovers are tied for the fewest in a game this season for the Trolls. 

UP NEXT: The Trolls will head to Governor's State (8-16, 7-10 CCAC) on Wednesday night for a 5:00 p.m. CST tip-off. It will be a critical matchup in the race for the final playoff spot in the CCAC. Currently, the Trolls are a half-game back of Governor's State in the standings. This is the lone meeting between the two teams. A win for the Trolls ands they will own the tie breaker if the two teams finish with identical conference records.
