Box Score 2 Palos Heights, Ill. - After a long few days of travel, Trinity Christian College baseball (4-9, 0-0 CCAC) wrapped up non-conference play with two big victories. The Trolls took game one of the doubleheader over Missouri Valley College (7-8) in extra innings, 10-9. It was a walk-off single from freshman Alex Avila to get the job done in the ninth inning.
The Trolls took the momentum into game two and secured an 18-8 victory as the offense went to work. Senior Mike McIntyre earned his first win of the season in game two. He went six innings and allowed only four earned runs. Sophomore Oliver Carmody batted leadoff and went 4-for-5 with four runs scored in the second game.
GAME 1 - Trinity Christian 10, Missouri Valley 9 - (9 innings)
Alexander Avila already had two hits in the game, but added his third with a base kncok up the middle to score junior Mike Moralez and the Trolls stole game one from Missouri Valley.
Missouri Valley had to battle back. The Trolls took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Moralez homered. The sweet swinging left-hander is red hot right now. He'd homer in game two and now has six bombs on the year.
In the fourth inning, senior Nick Andersen had one of his three hits and doubled to score two. Trinity extended the lead to 6-0 later in the inning when Carmody singled to score a run.
Missouri Valley scored six times though in the fifth inning to tie the score. Andersen broke the tie in the home-half on a single and it was 7-6 Trolls. Avila tacked on another run on a double and freshman Trevor Turco made it 10-6 on a sacrifice fly.
Missouri Valley scored three times in the sixth and the Trolls didn't break the tie until Avila walked it off with a single in the ninth. Junior Nathan Deckinga earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
GAME 2 - Trinity Christian 18, Missouri Valley 8 - (6 innings)
Senior Mike McIntyre came out with a great performance on the bump. Despite the Trolls committing two errors, McIntyre allowed only four earned runs and eight total runs. The Trolls 10-run ruled Missouri Valley to end the game an inning early. Trinity trailed 7-3 after the first three innings, but exploded in the fourth inning. The Trolls scored six in the fourth, four in the fifth and five runs in the sixth inning and Trinity picked up the win.
Moralez had another big game at the plate. He went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI when he homered in the third inning. Junior Hunter Slaats and sophomore Miles Williams each had two hits.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Moralez has 10 hits in his last five games including four home runs during that stretch.
- In 12 games this year, Andersen has a .378 batting average.
- Veldman now has seven hits in his last three games.
- Carmody has a .406 batting average in 10 games this year.
UP NEXT: The Trolls will return to Schaaf Athletic Complex next Wednesday, March. 16th when they take on St. Francis (Ill.) at 3:30 p.m for one nine-inning game.
