Late push comes up short against Jaguars

Box Score

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - With five players in double figures, Trinity Men's Basketball came up just short in their late comeback run, falling to Governors State 100-91 on Wednesday night inside DeVos Gymnasium.

A trio of three-pointers in the opening minutes would give the visitors the early lead, and the Trolls (9-15, 5-13 CCAC) were unable to pull even, finding themselves down by 11 going into halftime, 47-36. Bridgeman led the way offensively, with a team-high eight first-half points.

The second half went the same as the first as the Trolls fought to end the lead and Governors State fought to extend it. A couple of emphatic dunks by Troy Glover had the Trolls gaining some momentum halfway through the second.

The Jaguars (8-17, 8-9 CCAC) took their largest lead of the night early in the second half, 57-40 at the 15:54 mark. The Trolls worked the close the gap, scoring a 7-2 run in response with a pair of buckets from Bridgeman. With about 6 minutes left in the game, Barnhizer hit two big three-pointers to cut Governors State's lead to 8 points, 75-67. With just over 2 minutes left, Cison got a steal and score, followed up by a second-chance score by Brady Loerop, but the Jaguars would knock down key free throws down the stretch to keep Trinity at bay and secure the win.

Trinity will now prepare to hit the road on Saturday, when they take on Olivet Nazarene. Tipoff from Bourbonnais is set for 3:00 p.m.
