PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – A first half goal put the home team in front early, but a response by the visitors in the second half left Trinity Men's Soccer with a 1-1 draw with St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) in the 2023 season opener on Saturday, at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.

Freshman Joao Leonardo scored in his collegiate debut, coming into the game as a substitute in the 31st minute then finding the back of the net just five minutes later. The goal would stand until the 65th minute, when the Pomeroys (0-0-1) answered with their lone score of the match.

The Trolls (0-0-1) held a narrow shooting advantage, 10-9 over the Pomeroys, with Leonardo and Hernandez firing two shots apiece to lead the team. Goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou made two saves to secure the draw.

The Trolls are back in action with a pair of home matches next week, beginning on Tuesday, August 22, when they host Taylor (Ind.) at 4:30 p.m.
