Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – It took five extra minutes, but Trinity picked up the victory on Saturday afternoon, earning a conference win over Calumet 64-60 in overtime.
The Trolls (7-10, 3-8 CCAC) were led by John Cison's 20 points, including six in the overtime period. Michael Wright tallied 11 points, while Troy Glover picked up 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Trinity took control early, building their largest lead of the game midway through the first half, when Jayden Bridgeman's three-pointer put the Trolls up 19-6 at the 9:04 mark. Calumet (3-10, 3-8 CCAC) responded, closing out the first half on a 9-3 run to tie the game at the break, 29-29.
The Crimson Wave continued their run to start the second half, scoring six unanswered to lead 35-29. The Trolls would mount their comeback beginning with a pair of buckets from Cison that started a 10-0 run for the home team. As the defense held Calumet without a field goal for nearly five minutes, Trinity would take a 47-44 advantage on a pair of free throws from Glover with 6:50 remaining.
Tied at 53 in the final minute, Dustin Hudak looked to have scored the game-winner after a steal and layup with 21 seconds to play. Calumet would score on a buzzer-beating putback to even the score again and send the game to overtime.
The defense would come through again in the extra session, holding Calumet to just one field goal in overtime. Cison and Saeer Miller would hit key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The Trolls now hit the road for their next test, when they head north to take on Cardinal Stritch. Tipoff with the Wolves is set for Wednesday night, January 18, at 7:30 p.m.
