PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Eight student-athletes have been nominated for the 2024-25 Trinity Athletics Freshman of the Year award for their successes over the past year.
The Male and Female Freshman of the Year awards have four nominees each, submitted by their coaches. The winners for both awards will be announced tomorrow, on the @TrollsAthletics Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Aolani Cannon • Volleyball / Track & Field
Cannon finished her first season as a Troll ranked second on the team in kills, with 170, while playing in 111 of 115 sets throughout the year. On the track, Cannon posted the team's second-best time in the 100m and 200m during the outdoor season and earned her first All-CCAC honor as part of the Trolls' 4x400m relay at the CCAC Outdoor Championships.

Andrew Wicker • Men's Track & Field
Wicker broke the Trinity school record in the indoor High Jump, clearing 1.88m (6' 2") to place second at the CCAC Championships and earn All-CCAC honors. During outdoor season, Wicker qualified for the NCCAA National Championships, where he placed 11th in the High Jump.

Makenzi Bennett • Volleyball
Bennett led the Trolls in digs during her first season in Palos Heights, ranking tenth among CCAC competitors. The Byron Center, Mich. native ranked 13th in the conference with 35 aces, while playing in 29 of the team's 32 matches last fall.

Maite Farin • Track & Field
Farin qualified for the NCCAA Championships in two events, scoring points at the national meet in both the 3,000m Steeplechase and the 4x800m Relay. The Neustadt, Germany native posted the Trolls' fasted time in the indoor 1,000m and 3,000m, as well as the outdoor 5,000m.

Ashley Plapp • Softball
Emerging as one of the Trolls' top relief arms, Plapp made 19 appearances as a freshman, throwing a total of 27 innings in the circle. The Kenosha, Wisc. native earned her first career win back on March 12, in a 9-8 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.

Jacob Brouwer • Cross Country / Track & Field)
Brouwer as the Trolls' second-best finisher at the CCAC Cross Country Championships, and posted two top times during track season in his first year at Trinity. The Kalamazoo, Mich. native ran the fastest 3,000m time throughout indoor season, then had the Trolls' best outdoor 5,000m time and ranked second on the team in the outdoor 1,500m.

Diego Martin • Men's Soccer
Martin made 16 appearances in his first season, including 12 times in the starting eleven for the Trolls. As a midfielder, Martin recorded one assist and one goal on the year, a game-winner in the 30th minute against Campbellsville (Ky.) at the NCCAA Tournament.

Brendan Rushton • Men's Volleyball
In his first season inside DeVos Gymnasium, Rushton played in 69 of the team's 78 sets, and started all but one match at middle blocker for the Trolls. The Chicago native led the team with 40 total blocks and a .286 attack percentage.
