PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Eight student-athletes have been nominated for the 2024-25 Trinity Athletics Athlete of the Year award for their successes over the past year.
The Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards have four nominees each, submitted by their coaches. The winners for both awards will be announced tomorrow, on the @TrollsAthletics Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Litzy Corona • Women's Soccer
Corona was named a First Team All-CCAC selection, and a Second Team NCCAA All-American after guiding the Trolls to the NCCAA national title. The senior was named the NCCAA Tournament MVP and won the Golden Ball award, for the most goals scored throughout the tournament. Corona finished 2nd in the CCAC, with 13 goals throughout the season.

Kamryn Koontz • Softball
Koontz was an All-CCAC First Team selection and a CCAC All-Academic award winner, after hitting for a .358 batting average to lead the team. The sophomore finished second on the team with 21 RBI, and a .463 slugging percentage.

Paige Stefanek • Track & Field
Stefanek set the Trinity school record in the indoor Weight Throw, clearing 14.25m (46' 9") at the Chicagoland Intercollegiate in February. A two-time All-CCAC Team honoree this year, Stefanek placed second at the conference championships in the indoor Weight Throw, and the outdoor Hammer Throw.

Sharide Sykes • Women's Volleyball
Sykes was named the CCAC Setter of the Year last fall, as the junior was selected to the All-CCAC First Team. Sykes finished 3rd in the CCAC with an average of 7.26 assists per set while starting in all 32 matches throughout the season.

Chris Cross • Men's Basketball
Cross averaged 20.7 points per game in his first season at Trinity, and ranked second in the CCAC in scoring, as one of just two players to average over 20 points per game. The fifth-year senior was named to the All-CCAC Second Team, and led the Trolls in rebounds (129) and steals (36).

David Hernandez • Men's Soccer
Hernandez was named a CSC Academic All-American for his work on the field and in the classroom, while also earning First Team All-CCAC honors with 16 goals scored, second-most in the league. During the Trolls' run to the NCCAA Tournament, Hernandez was named to the NCCAA All-Tournament Team, and won the NCCAA Golden Ball award, with three goals scored during the postseason run.

Shane Jones • Baseball
Jones started 38 games primarily at shortstop during his first season at Trinity, and led the Trolls in doubles (14), and RBI (32). Selected to the All-CCAC Second Team, Jones posted a 31-game hitting streak throughout the season from Feb. 28 - Apr. 12.

Ricardo Serpa • Men's Golf
Serpa earned First Team All-CCAC honors for the third time in his career, and finished his junior season with five top-tens, three top-fives, and his third career tournament title. The junior posted a 75.4 scoring average, with four rounds of even par or lower throughout the year.
