PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Eight student-athletes have been nominated for the 2024-25 Trinity Athletics Newcomer of the Year award for their successes over the past year.
The Male and Female Newcomer of the Year awards have four nominees each, submitted by their coaches. The winners for both awards will be announced tomorrow, on the @TrollsAthletics Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Alysia Arias • Track & Field
Arias posted the Trolls' fastest time in six events - the 60m, 200, and 400m during indoor season, and the 100m, 200m and 400m in the outdoor season. The junior also earned All-CCAC honors as a member of the outdoor 4x400m relay team.

Chris Cross • Men's Basketball
Cross averaged 20.7 points per game in his first season at Trinity, and ranked second in the CCAC in scoring, as one of just two players to average over 20 points per game. The fifth-year senior was named to the All-CCAC Second Team, and led the Trolls in rebounds (129) and steals (36).

Gema Garibay • Women's Soccer
Garibay played in all 24 games during her first season at Trinity, starting 17 times throughout the season. As a midfielder, Garibay recorded one goal, and had an assist in the win over Warner (Fla.) at the NCCAA Tournament.

Ari Juarez • Cross Country / Track & Field
As a sophomore, Juarez started her Trinity career as the top finisher at her first five meets, including at the CCAC Cross Country Championships. During track season, Juarez was the Trolls' top option in the 800 meters, posting the team's fastest 800m time in both indoor and outdoor seasons.

Lauryn Packard • Softball
Packard played in 27 games as a junior, hitting for a .302 average during her first season as a Troll. The Kaplan, La. native collected 12 RBI, good for 4th-most on the team as well as three doubles and six runs scored.

Shane Jones • Baseball
Jones started 38 games primarily at shortstop during his first season at Trinity, and led the Trolls in doubles (14), and RBI (32). Selected to the All-CCAC Second Team, Jones posted a 31-game hitting streak throughout the season from Feb. 28 - Apr. 12.

Taiki Kondo • Baseball
Kondo played in 43 games, starting 40 times in the outfield in his first season as a Troll. The junior posted a .411 batting average, 4th-best in the CCAC, and was named to the All-CCAC First Team while leading the team with 60 base hits on the year.

J.P. Quaresma • Men's Soccer
In his first season at Trinity, Quaresma played in 20 matches, appearing in the starting eleven 16 times. As a defender, Quaresma scored one goal and recorded two assists on the year.
