CHANNAHON, Ill. – Trinity Christian punched their ticket to the NCCAA National Cross Country Championships on Friday night, as the women's squad earned a top-three finish at the Fighting Saints Twilight Invite at Channahon Community Park.
The Trolls earned a third-place team finish, their best at the Twilight Invite since a runner-up performance in 2017, scoring 90 points behind three top-20 finishers. Jordyn Fleener posted the team's lone sub-20 time, clocking in at 19:44.21 to place 8th overall.
Maite Farin and Ariadna Juarez each finished in under 21 minutes, finishing 16th and 19th, respectively. Maddy Butler and Ava Vliestra - in her Trinity debut - rounded out the scoring positions, finishing 23rd and 24th with times under 22 minutes.
On the men's side, Jacob Brouwer paced the Trolls for the second year in a row, besting his time from last season. Brower and Klompien both finished under 18 minutes for the first time at the Twilight, along with Aitor Mateo, who broke 18 at the event for the second year in a row.
Cristian Contreras and Jesus Portilla rounded out the top five for Trinity, who would finish 8th in the team standings, with 218 points.
The Trolls are back in action in three weeks, when they compete at the Midwest Classic, hosted by Olivet Nazarene on Friday, September 19.
